The XIIth International Congress on Parasitology (ICOPA) will be held in Melbourn (Australia), from 15-20th August 2010 . The theme of the congress is “Understanding the global impact of parasites- from genomes to function and disease”, and it will be an important forum for the disemintaion and discussion of new findings in this rapidly expanding field. There will be presentations on Chagas, leishmaniasis and Malaria.

Centenary celebration

in Copacabana

Médecins Sans Frontières and the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative organized an event to celebrate the centenary of the discovery of Chagas disease in Copacabana Beach, Rio de Janeiro, on June 9.
Using the slogan, “Prevention is not enough. It is time to treat”, MSF and the DNDi invited the passers-by to light 100 candles on the sand to recall the discovery made by doctor Carlos Chagas. Vera Holtz, Brazilian actress, and several Chagas patients were amongst the participants.
